Hello all you wonderful backers,

We’ve done it. The book will now be full of comic book trope optional stuff like alternate Earths and super prisons. And it’s all thanks to you folks! Team CAPERS loves you, yep, we sure do.

But what else could there be? Well, here we go.

The next stretch goal is set for $7200. With this one, we’ll add even MORE cool stuff to the book. We’ll expand the GM Toolbox with another alternate Earth, this one with automatons (1920s-style robots and androids!). And we’ll add some more city one-pagers, info on introducing an Empowering Event to the story, and an adventure for law enforcement characters.

There’s a whole bunch of other things below. Please take the time to read them all. There’s info on backer levels and some requests from me on other things.

Gangster Backers

I’ve begun contacting Gangster backers to gather email addresses so we can confer on your illustrations. Some of you have responded with email addresses. Some haven’t. If you haven’t, please do so ASAP. Thanks.

More Joes and Janes Backer Slots

The Joes and Janes backer level filled up pretty quickly and a couple people remarked to me how they wished there were more spots. Wish granted.

At 8pm Eastern time on Monday, March 26, I will add four more Joes and Janes backer slots. Get ‘em while they’re hot! If you grab one, I’ll get in touch shortly after to help you develop your Regular Joe or Jane in the game book.

Wanna Be a Gangster?

A Gangster backer level slot opened up. Who wants to be in an illustration in the game?

300 Backers by Sunday Midnight?

As stated in update #8 “264 Backers!” I’m shooting for 300 backers by midnight Eastern time on Sunday, March 25. If we hit that backer number goal, all backers will get to include a gangster-style or supers-style nickname in their backer thank you name. Weekends tend to be slow on Kickstarter, so the best way to hit that goal is for current backers to remind their friends that if they plan to back, now is a good time.

The CAPERS Playing Card Mechanics

If you’ve looked over or played the preview edition stuff, refer to my question in the Comments section of the main KS page regarding the potential of using that system for other games/genres in future NerdBurger Games offerings. I’m curious as to your thoughts.

Previewing the Game

Don’t forget to pop into Update #7 “CAPERS Preview Edition Available for Backers Now!” to download your copy of the preview edition. Also, I’ll be sending out some more preview stuff (including at least the character creation rules, a character sheet mock-up, a few more powers, and one of the larger city write-ups) for backers in a separate update very soon.

Post-Kickstarter Process

I’m looking into how to handle post-Kickstarter stuff. The backer survey included in Kickstarter did the trick last time around, though I may go with Backerkit this time for ease of its interface. More info on that in the not-too-distant future.

Game on,

264 Backers!
about 6 years ago – Wed, Mar 21, 2018 at 10:00:52 AM

Hello all,

As of last evening, we hit 264 backers. What’s so special about that number? Well, it’s one backer more than the TOTAL number of backers for my first RPG, Murders & Acquisitions. We beat that backer number before the CAPERS Kickstarter was halfway over.

So thank you to everyone who helped get us there. It was a personal milestone for me and it makes me super happy that it happened in just a bit over two weeks. Now on to 264 more backers!

A New Backer Milestone

We’re still a bit shy of the fourth stretch goal, and that’s okay. We’re moving forward and I’m sure we’ll hit it. But to give all of us a little extra push to share the CAPERS Kickstarter campaign around, I’m gonna throw a challenge out there.

If we hit 300 backers by midnight Eastern time on Sunday, March 25th, all backers get to include a gangster-style or supers-style nickname in their thank you credit name. Do you want to be known as John “Knuckles” Smith or Jane “Slingshot” Jones (or something like that) in the credits? This is your chance.

(And no fair asking people to back and then drop later. That’s cheating.)

Game on,

Craig

Hey there all,

Stretch goal three is in the book. Lots of city info and bunch more character options.

Thanks so much, everyone! CAPERS is really shaping up.

New Stretch Goal

The next stretch goal is set at $6200 and it is a humdinger. We’ll add a chapter filled with comic book style tropes translated into the world of CAPERS. Alternate Earths, super-prisons, and so on. And we’ll give characters access to some powers that will allow them to travel to these alternate Earths.

I’ve also added info on some adventures that will be provided as part of the PDF support materials. So check ‘em out on the main Kickstarter page.

CAPERS Q&A Reminder – One Last Time

One more time. Q&A with me, artist Beth Varni, graphic designer Owen St.Gelais, and cartographer/layout dude Mike Brock for Saturday, Mar 17, at 1pm Eastern time. It’ll be hosted by Sean and his Power Score twitch channel. And he’ll post it on his YouTube Channel afterwards for anyone who can’t make it.

Also, there will be a pretty cool announcement made during the Q&A. You don’t want to miss that, do you?

Drop those questions in the Comments or show up and ask in the chat. (So far, there are no questions in the Comments, so I hope some people are gonna show up in the chat. Otherwise it'll be the five of us asking each other questions.)

The Survey

A few dozen people have filled out the survey regarding what they’d like to see if we expand the rewards a bit. This is the only time I’m going to poll the backers for this, so hit the link below if you want to participate.

The survey will only be open until midnight on Sunday, March 18.

The Slog Begins
about 6 years ago – Wed, Mar 14, 2018 at 02:04:45 PM

Good morning all,

We’ve officially hit that mid-Kickstarter slog. It’s expected, but it’s still frustrating.

How shall we combat this? How about a sneaky peeky at something from the current stretch goal push. Here’s a look at Cincinnati, one of the one-page city write-ups that go into the book at $5200. (The Atlantic City, New York, and Chicago sections are significantly longer than one page.)

CINCINNATI

How do we hit $5200 (and beyond)? I’m doing interviews and podcasts. The CAPERS team is doing their part. But we can only do so much. So share the Kickstarter around. Talk about the game with your gamer friends. Make a post or two to social media. It all helps. Word of mouth is stronger than a Tommy gun in this case.

A Glimpse of the Future

Here’s the haps.

We’re close to stretch goal number three. Stretch goal number four isn’t that far off, and there’s still more than three weeks left in the campaign.

At four stretch goals, the book will be filled out with all the material developed over the past couple years.

There’s plenty of PDF support material in the Kickstarter, too. And you can get a physical book and some playing cards. A pretty good reward package for backers.

Four stretch goals is all we really planned for. But you folks went and responded in a big way and here we are. Barely over a week in and we’re feeling like there’s more we can do beyond the four planned stretch goals.

So…

We’d like to at least explore the idea of adding a little more stuff to the game. The catch is…we need to be careful about adding things that will prolong the expected delivery date. NerdBurger Games is working very hard to deliver games in a reasonable amount of time. So we’re wary.

That said, let’s see what you’re interested in seeing in the game. Below is a link to a survey. Please only fill it out once. We’re not promising we’ll add any of that stuff to the game, but we might. We’ll need to look at how things affect our schedule, turnover, and everyone’s workloads. And get a sense of what YOU would like to see.

(The survey includes maps and minis. The game isn’t particularly tactical and such things aren’t necessary. But many people like maps and minis just to keep track of stuff and not having to remember it all.)

SURVEY LINK

The survey will only be open until midnight on Sunday, March 18.

CAPERS Q&A Reminder

I’ve scheduled a Q&A with me, artist Beth Varni, graphic designer Owen St.Gelais, and cartographer/layout dude Mike Brock for Saturday, Mar 17, at 1pm Eastern time. It’ll be hosted by Sean and his Power Score twitch channel.

If you have a question for the stream, post it in the Comments section with “Q&A:” before it. Or just join the chat during the stream and ask away.

Keep an eye on the Comments section for any additional news about the Q&A.

Thanks again for all your help in making CAPERS a reality! Here’s to three more great weeks.

Game on,

Craig
